Project Overview

The Major Rehabilitation of MV Liemba represents one of Tanzania's most significant maritime restoration projects, preserving one of the world's oldest operational passenger vessels while upgrading it to meet modern maritime safety and operational standards. Commissioned by Tanzania Shipping Company Limited (TASHICO), the project is being executed by Dar es Salaam Merchant Group (DMG) in partnership with Brodosplit JSC of Croatia, combining international shipbuilding expertise with local engineering excellence. The rehabilitation encompasses comprehensive structural repairs, renewal of propulsion and mechanical systems, modernization of passenger facilities, installation of advanced navigation and communication equipment, and refurbishment of critical onboard infrastructure. Once completed, the vessel will continue serving communities across Lake Tanganyika while preserving its historical significance for future generations. The project demonstrates DMG's capability to deliver complex marine rehabilitation works that require precision engineering, international compliance, and heritage preservation under one integrated programme.
